ITBP Driver Selection Process, PET PST and Exam Pattern

Indo Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP) has initiated recruitment process for the selection of Constable (Driver). ITBP Driver Selection Procedure 2024-2025

After the bio-metric, photograph and signature verification at recruitment centre, candidates have to undergo different stages of recruitment process in the order as follows:

  • Physical Efficiency Test
  • Physical Standard Test
  • Written Examination
  • Documents Verification
  • Practical (Skill) Test
  • Medical Examination (DME/ RME)

Candidates whose application forms are found in order will be issued Admit Card for the ITBP Driver Recruitment Process. All candidates will have to appear for the selection process as per the date, time and center (venue) mentioned in Admit Card (Call letter) downloaded through official website.

ITBP Constable Driver Selection Procedure

You will have to report at the venue on the dates mentioned in the Admit Card along with all the required documents like Identity certificate, educational qualification certificates, Caste Certificate, Aadhar Card etc in original. After verification of identity at the recruitment center, you will have to undergo different selection tests in four phases as follows:

  • Phase 1: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST)
  • Phase 2: Written Exam (OMR/ CBT)
  • Phase 3: Documents Verification, Practical (Skill) Test and Merit List
  • Phase 4: Medical Examination (DME/ RME)

Exam date, time and place of each stage test will be indicated in Admit Card issued online through official website to all eligible candidates. You are required to carry a clear and legible print out of your online application form and admit card at the venue of Physical Test (PET/PST).

The latest and detailed selection process (step by step) is as follows:

Height Bar Test

Firstly, candidates will have to go through the Height Bar Test to fulfill the prescribed Height criteria (see height standards below).

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Candidates qualified in Height Bar Test will be put through the following Physical Efficiency Test (PET) events (qualifying in nature).

  • Race: 1.6 Kms Race within 7.30 minutes
  • Long Jump: 11 Feet (in 03 Chances)
  • High Jump: 3½ Feet (in 03 Chances)

PET will not be held for Ex-servicemen. However, Ex-servicemen will be required to qualify the requisite Physical Standard Test (PST), Written Examination, Practical Test and Medical Examination.

Physical Standard Test (PST)

Candidates qualified in PET will have to undergo Physical Standard Test. Physical Standards (Height, Chest and Weight) for Constable Driver will be measured as follows:

Height and Chest:

  • GEN/ SC/ OBC Category – Height: 170 Cms and Chest: 80-85 Cms
  • ST Category – Height: 162.5 Cms and Chest: 76-81 Cms
  • ST Category (North-Eastern States) – Height: 160 Cms and Chest: 76-81 Cms
  • Garhwali, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas and candidates belonging to the state of Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir region of UT of Jammu & Kashmir and UT of Ladakh – Height: 165 Cms and Chest: 78-83 Cms
  • Candidates from North-Eastern States of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura – Height: 162.5 Cms and Chest: 77-82 Cms

Candidate who intends to avail relaxation in Height/ Chest measurement will have to submit certificate as per prescribed format.

Weight: Proportionate to height and age as per medical standards.

Written Examination

Candidates qualified in the PST will be called for Written Test (OMR or Computer Based Test/ CBT) of maximum 100 Marks. ITBP Constable Driver question paper will be of 02 Hours duration and will consist of total 100 objective type questions (01 mark each). Questions for the written test will be of 10th standard. The question paper will be set both in Hindi and English.

The Question Paper comprises of questions based on:

  • General Knowledge: 10 Questions (10 Marks)
  • Mathematics: 10 Questions (10 Marks)
  • Hindi: 10 Questions (10 Marks)
  • English: 10 Questions (10 Marks)
  • Trade Related: 60 Questions (60 Marks)

Minimum cut-off marks for qualifying in written exam:
GEN/ EWS/ Ex-Servicemen – 35% Marks
SC/ ST/ OBC – 33% Marks

Documents Verification (DV)

Candidates declared qualified in written exam (ten times category-wise vacancies) will have to go through documentation (verification of original documents). To pass in the documentation test, candidates will have to produce all original documents/ certificates in proof of details as given in the online form.

The following documents will be required for verification:

1. Educational certificates.
2. Date of birth certificate (10th pass certificate).
3. Valid Heavy Vehicle Driving License.
4. Professional/ Experience certificate (if any).
5. SC/ ST/ OBC (NCL) certificate in the prescribed format.
6. No Objection Certificate (for serving persons).
7. Domicile certificate/ PAN Card/ Aadhar Card/ Driving License/ Voter ID Card for verification of citizenship.
8. Discharge certificate (for Ex-Serviceman).
9. Certificate for claiming relaxation in height and chest (if applicable).
10. Four latest passport size photographs.

Practical (Skill) Test

Candidates qualified in Documents Verification will have to go through Skill Test of maximum 50 Marks. The Practical (Skill) Test will be qualifying in nature only. Qualifying marks for all candidates (irrespective of categories) will be 50%.

The Practical (Skill) Test or Driving Test criteria are as follows:

1. All checks before engine starting and knowledge about vehicle sensor and signals and rear view mirror adjustment – 05 Marks

2. Smooth straight head driving with gears changing, top gear speed, change to lower gear from top gear in different traffic condition – 05 Marks

3. Vehicle uphill and downhill operations, stop and restart at steep gradient without rolling back – 05 Marks

4. The technique of overtaking, giving pass, change of lanes and lane driving and other precautions – 05 Marks

5. Use of hand signals and electric signals, emergency stops, precautions & safety – 05 Marks

6. Vehicle reversing, Garaging on & off side and taking out vehicle from different restrictions, turning of vehicle left, right and stopping etc – 05 Marks

7. Show courtesy and consideration for the safe and convenience of other road users, such as pedestrians, drivers and other motor vehicles or cyclist – 05 Marks

8. Knowledge about mandatory, warning and informatory road signs – 05 Marks

9. Knowledge about driver’s duty in case of accident – 05 Marks

10. Knowledge about motor mechanism (candidate should be able to remove minor defects in vehicle) – 05 Marks

Merit List

After completion of Skill Test, category wise Merit lists (Result) will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the Written Exam. On the basis of merit the candidates will be shortlisted for Detailed Medical Examination (DME) as per the category-wise vacancies. Extended list in each category will also be prepared to cover the shortfall due to failure of candidates in medical exam.

Medical Examination

Finally, candidates will be put through Detailed Medical Examination (DME) in order of merit as per category wise number of vacancies. The candidates will be medically examined to assess their fitness as per Medical Standards. Candidates declared unfit during DME will be allowed to undergo Review Medical Examination (RME).

The minimum distance vision should be 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other eye without correction i.e. without wearing spectacles or lenses. The visual (eye sight) standards for the candidates of all categories are as follows:

Visual Acuity unaided (NEAR VISION): Better eye-N6 and Worse eye-N9.
Uncorrected visual acuity (DISTANT VISION): Better eye-6/6 and Worse eye-6/9.
Refraction: Visual correction of any kind is not permitted even by spectacles or lenses.
Color Vision: CP-II by ISIHARA.

In right handed person, the Right eye is better eye and vice versa. Binocular vision is required.

A colour blind person will not be eligible for appointment. The candidate must not have knock knee, flat foot, varicose vein or squint in eyes and must pass high grade colour vision. The candidate must be in good mental and bodily health and free from any physical defect likely to interfere with the efficient performance of the duties.

Tattoos depicting religious symbol or figures and the name, as followed in Indian Army are to be permitted. Tattoos marked on traditional sites of the body like inner aspect of forearm but only left forearm, being non saluting limb or dorsum of the hands are to be allowed. Size must be less than ¼ of the particular part (Elbow or Hand) of the body.
