SSB Constable Selection Process, PET PST and Exam Pattern

Sashastra Seema Bal has initiated the recruitment process for selection of Constable (Veterinary, Driver, Gardener, Water Carrier, Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber, Waiter, Carpenter and Nursing Orderly). The selection process consists of Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Physical Standard Test (PST), Written exam, Documentation, Trade test and Medical examination. SSB Constable Tradesman Selection Process 2026-2027

Candidates whose application forms are found to be in order will be issued Admit Card (Call letter) for the SSB Constable Recruitment Process. All candidates will have to appear for the selection process as per the date, time and center (venue) mentioned in Admit Card only.

After bio-metric attendance, photograph, signature and thumb impression, candidates will have to go through various stages of recruitment process, which are as follows:

• Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
• Physical Standard Test (PST)
• Written Examination (Computer Based)
• Documentation and Skill Test
• Medical Examination (DME/ RME)

Eligible candidates list and Admit Card for the different stages of SSB Constable selection process like PET, PST, Written exam, Trade (Skill) test etc will be released through the official recruitment website about 1-2 weeks before the exam date.

SSB Constable Selection Procedure (Detailed)

You will have to report to the venue on the date mentioned in the Admit Card along with all the documents mentioned in the application form like Identity certificate, Educational qualification certificates, Caste certificate, Aadhar Card etc in original. In the event of non production of relevant documents you will not be allowed to appear in recruitment process.

The latest and detailed SSB Constable/ Tradesman Selection Process is as follows:

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Firstly, all the male and female candidates will have to go through the following Physical Efficiency Test (PET) events. PET will be only qualifying in nature and it will not carry any marks. Ex-Servicemen are exempted from PET. The PET for Constable (Veterinary, Driver, Gardener, Water Carrier, Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber, Waiter, Carpenter and Nursing Orderly) will be conducted at SSB locations by the Board of Officers as follows:

Male Candidates – 4.8 Kms Race within 24 Minutes.
Female Candidates – 2.4 Kms Race within 18 Minutes.

Physical Standard Test (PST)

Candidates qualified in PET will have to undergo Physical Standard Test (PST). The Physical Standards (Height, Chest and Weight) for Constable (Driver), Constable (Veterinary & Nursing Orderly) and Constable Tradesman (Gardener, Water Carrier, Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber, Waiter and Carpenter) will be measured as follows:

Constable (Driver):

GEN/SC/OBC – Height: 170 Cms and Chest: 80-85 Cms.

Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Dogras, Marathas and candidates belonging to the States of Assam, Himachal Pradesh, UTs of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh – Height: 165 Cms and Chest: 78-83 Cms.

Gorkhas and candidates from Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya – Height: 162.5 Cms and Chest: 77-82 Cms.

ST Candidates from Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Left Wing Extremism affected districts – Height: 160 Cms and Chest: 76-81 Cms.

ST Candidates (All other areas) – Height: 162.5 Cms and Chest: 76-81 Cms.

Weight – Proportionate to height and age as per medical standards.

Constable (Veterinary):

GEN/SC/OBC – Height (Male): 170 Cms, Height (Female): 157 Cms and Chest (Male): 80-85 Cms.

Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas and candidates belonging to the States of Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, UTs Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh – Height (Male): 165 Cms, Height (Female): 155 Cms and Chest (Male): 78-83 Cms.

ST Candidates – Height (Male): 162.5 Cms, Height (Female): 150 Cms and Chest (Male): 76-81 Cms.

Weight – Proportionate to height and age as per medical standards.

Constable Tradesman (Gardener, Water Carrier, Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber, Waiter and Carpenter):

GEN/SC/OBC – Height (Male): 167.5 Cms and Height (Female): 157 Cms.

Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas and candidates belonging to the States of Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, UTs Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh – Height (Male): 165 Cms and Height (Female): 155 Cms.

ST Candidates – Height (Male): 162.5 Cms and Height (Female): 150 Cms.

Chest (Only for Male candidates) – GEN/SC/OBC: 78-83 Cms and ST: 76-81 Cms (minimum expansion 05 Cms).

Weight – Proportionate to height and age as per medical standards.

Written Examination

Candidates qualified in the PET and PST will be called to appear in written examination consisting a Computer Based Test (CBT) of maximum 100 Marks. SSB Constable Written exam will be of 02 Hours duration and will consist of total 100 multiple choice objective type questions (01 mark each).

SSB CT question paper will comprise of questions based on General Knowledge, Mathematics, Reasoning and General English/ Hindi. Minimum qualifying marks for all posts of Constable (Veterinary, Driver, Gardener, Water Carrier, Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber, Waiter, Carpenter and Nursing Orderly) are as follows:

UR, EWS, OBC and Ex-Serviceman – 50% Marks
SC and ST Category – 45% Marks

Documentation and Skill Test

Candidate declared qualified in written examination will have to go through documentation (checking of documents) before the skill test or trade test. For this, a list of up to 20 times the number of vacancies (category wise) will be prepared on the basis of merit of the written exam. In the documentation process you will have to produce all original documents/ certificates in support of details as submitted in the application form.

The required documents/ certificates in original with self-attested copies are as follows:

• Educational certificates and marks sheets.
• Degree/ Diploma/ Certificate course (as applicable).
• Experience certificate (as applicable).
• Date of birth certificate.
• SC/ ST/ OBC/ EWS certificate (as applicable).
• Bonafide/ Permanent residence/ Domicile certificate.
• Discharge certificate in case of Ex-serviceman.
• No objection certificate in case of employed person.
• Height and chest relaxation certificate (if applicable).
• Other Documents/ certificates (as required).

After documentation, you will be put through Skill Test of qualifying nature in relevant trade as filled in the application form. SSB Constable Trade Test will be of maximum 50 Marks and the minimum qualifying marks for all candidates including SC/ ST/ OBC/ EWS/ Ex-Serviceman category will be 60%. The trade test for all the posts will be of qualifying nature. No marks of the trade test will be included in preparing the final merit list.

Medical Examination

Candidate qualified in PET, PST, Written Examination, Documentation and Skill Test will be called for the Detailed Medical Examination (DME) on the basis of merit of written exam. For this, a list of up to 03 times the number of vacancies (category wise) will be prepared. The candidates will be medically examined by Medical Officer to assess their physical & medical fitness as prescribed in the Medical Standards. Candidates declared unfit during DME will be allowed to undergo Review Medical Examination (RME).

Final Selection – Trade and category wise final selection list will be prepared in order of merit (marks obtained in written exam) after completion of Review Medical Examination.
