Indian Army Dharm Guru Bharti JCO RT Vacancies
As we know, all recruitment processes were suspended and cancelled due to Covid-19 pandemic for past two years. Candidates who had passed their Physical Test and Medicals in past recruiting years (20-21 and 21-22) will have to re-apply online and undergo the recruitment process again. In order to provide opportunity to aspirants, 02 years age relaxation has been granted for the current recruiting year (22-23).
Pay Scale – Rs 35400-112400 plus other allowances.

Age and Educational Qualification (Eligibility Criteria)
JCO RT eligibility criteria as age limit, educational qualification and physical standards (height, chest, weight) is as follows:
Civilian and Serving Candidates – 25 to 36 years as on 01 Oct 2022 i.e. candidate should be born between 01 Oct 1986 and 30 Sep 1997 inclusive of both dates. The upper age limit for RT JCO has been relaxed from 34 Years to 36 Years as a one time measure for the Recruiting Year 2022-2023.
The following educational and religious denomination qualification will be common for Civilian (Direct Entry) and Serving Soldier (In Service) candidates:
RT Pandit and Pandit (Gorkha) for Gorkha Regiment – Hindu candidate with Shastri/ Acharya in Sanskrit form any recognized University. The candidate must have Karam Kand as one of the main/ core subject during Shastri/ Acharya or 01 year Diploma in Karam Kand.
RT Granthi – Sikh candidate with graduation in any discipline from any recognized University. The candidate must have Gyani in Punjabi.
RT Maulvi and Maulvi (Shia) for Ladakh Scouts – Muslim candidate with graduation in any discipline from any recognized University. The candidate must have Alim in Arabic or Adeeb-e-Mahir/ Urdu Mahir in Urdu.
RT Padre – Christian candidate with graduation in any discipline from any recognized University. The candidate must have been ordained priesthood by the appropriate ecclesiastical authority and is on the approved list of the local Bishop.
RT Budhist (Bodh Monk) – Budhist candidate with graduation in any discipline from any recognized University. The candidate must have ordained Monk/ Budhist Priest by an appropriate authority.
Height – Minimum 160 Cms (157 Cms for Gorkhas & Ladakhi region candidates and 155 Cms for Andaman & Nicobar Island, Lakshadweep Gp incl Minicoys).
Chest – Minimum 77 Cms.
Weight – 50 Kgs (48 Kgs for Gorkhas & Ladakhi region candidates).
JCO RT Selection Process, Physical and Exam Syllabus
JCO Religious Teacher or Dharm Guru selection process will consist of Screening (Checking of original certificates, Physical Fitness Test & Medical examination), Written Exam and Interview. Screening, Documentation, Physical tests etc will be conducted at respective HQ Recruiting Zone/ Regimental Centres through Recruitment rallies as per the schedule (programme) fixed by the Indian Army.
The recruitment will be carried out through all the HQ Recruiting Zones, IRO Delhi Cantt, GRD Kunraghat and Ladakh Scouts Regiment Centre (Leh). Civil candidates can appear for screening (rally) and written exam only in the HQ Recruiting Zone, IRO Delhi Cantt or Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre covering their place of domicile. In Service candidates will appear for screening and written in the Recruiting Zones or IRO Delhi Cantt nearest to their place of posting.
Required Documents for Screening Test – You will have to carry Admit Card along with the following documents in original as well as photocopies, when called for initial screening (recruitment rally):
1. Character certificate by Sarpanch of the Village or authorized signatory of the State Govt.
2. Domicile/ Resident/ Nativity certificate from the authorized signatory of the State Govt.
3. Original Certificate from matriculation onward and detailed mark sheet of each year separately pertaining to educational qualification.
4. Relationship certificate issued by concerned Record Officer for Son of Serviceman/ Ex-servicemen, Son of War Widow/ Son of Widow (if applicable).
Physical Fitness Test (PFT) – 1.6 Kms (1600 Meters) Run within 08 Minutes.
(Provisions of extra time for run/ race in Hilly Terrain Areas: Between 5000 feet to 9000 feet – Additional 30 Seconds and Between 9000 feet to 12000 feet – Additional 120 Seconds)
Medical Standards – Candidates should have robust physique and mental health, chest should be well developed having minimum 5 cm expansion, should have normal hearing with each ear, should have sufficient number of natural teeth i.e. 14 dental points with healthy gums. Candidate should not have diseases like deformity of bones, hydrocele, varicose veins or piles.
Written Examination – Candidates qualified in Screening will be put through written examination (objective type). JCO RT Written exam is scheduled to be conducted on 26th Feb 2023, which will comprise of two papers as per the following exam pattern and syllabus:
Paper-1 (Max 100 Marks) – General Awareness (Common to all Religious categories).
Paper 1st will comprise of total 50 objective type questions (02 Marks each) based on General Knowledge/ Awareness and will be only a qualifying exam. Minimum 40 marks are required to qualify in Paper 1st. Negative marking of 0.5 marks will be applicable for each wrong answer.
Syllabus Paper-1 (General Awareness) – The paper 1 test will consist of questions related to India and its neighboring countries based on History, Culture, Geography and who’s who. In addition Abbreviations, Sports, Awards and Prizes, Terminology, Indian Armed Forces, Continents and Sub Continents, Inventions and Discoveries, The Constitution of India, International Organizations, Books and Authors, Knowledge of Important events that have happened in India and at world level in the recent years, Current important world events, Prominent personalities etc.
Paper-2 (Max 100 Marks) – Specific to religious denominations as applied by the candidates.
Candidates qualified in Paper 1st will be allowed to appear for Paper 2nd. The 2nd Paper will comprise of total 50 objective type questions (02 Marks each) to check the knowledge specific to belonging religious category. Minimum 40 marks are required to obtain in this paper to come in the merit list and to be eligible for interview. Negative marking of 0.5 marks will be applicable for each wrong answer.
Syllabus Paper-2 (Specific to Religious category) – Pandit, Maulvi, Granthi, Padre, Monk : Rituals, Scriptures and Discourses of Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Christianity and Buddhism, Motivational concepts. Written exam result and list of shortlisted candidates for interview will be declared by HQ RTG Zone Bangalore through the official website. The interview will be of maximum 100 Marks and 50 Marks will be required to pass in the interview. Eligible candidates will be interviewed by a board of officers at 1 ASC Training Centre Bangalore and 39 GTC Varanasi as applicable Regimental Centre.
Final selection of candidates will be based on merit list prepared on the basis of the total marks obtained in Paper 2nd and Interview. No bonus marks will be entitled to son of Serving/ Ex-servicemen/ War Widow/ Widow and Sportsmen/ NCC/ Computer certificate holders.
Candidates finally selected will be enrolled as JCO (RT) and will undergo 06 weeks of Basic training at BEG and Centre Kirkee followed by 11 weeks of training specific to religious denominations. On successful completion of training the candidates will be commissioned as Religious Teacher (Dharm Guru) in the rank of Naib Subedar.
JCO RT Application Form, Important Dates and Notification
Eligible and interested candidates are required to apply for the Indian Army JCO Religious Teacher (Dharm Guru) Recruitment to the concerned Headquarter Recruiting Zone/ Regimental Centre as per their permanent domicile. Civilian candidates applying for Pandit, Granthi, Padri and Maulvi (Sunni) categories are required to register and submit online application on the website joinindanarmy.nic.in.

Pandit (Gorkha), Maulvi (Shia) & Bodh Monk (Mahayana) candidates are required to submit offline application in the prescribed format to the concerned Recruiting Zone or Regimental Centre (Gorkha Recruiting Depot Kunraghat/ Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre Leh).
You will have to send the application form with attested photocopies of character certificate, 10th & 12th certificate, certificates of graduation qualification, domicile certificate and detailed marks sheet separately for each year of Graduation/ Post-Graduation in Religious qualification. Postal addresses of HQ Recruiting Zones/ Regimental Centres are mentioned in the JCO RT recruitment notice.
