FRI Dehradun is set to release the Group C exam schedule for the posts of Technician, Technical Assistant, LDC, Forest Guard, Steno, Store Keeper, Library Assistant and MTS. The CBT exams for selection to Technical and Non-Technical Group C Vacancies are scheduled to be conducted in Uttarakhand in June 2026 (tentative). The Computer Based Test (CBT) for FRI Group C posts may be conducted in Uttarakhand as per the following schedule:

Day 1 – Shift 1: Library Information Assistant; Shift 2: Store Keeper.
Day 2 – Shift 1: Technician (Field/Lab Research); Shift 2: Technician (Maintenance).
Day 3 – Shift 1: Forest Guard; Shift 2: Technical Assistant (Field/Lab Research).
Day 4 – Shift 1: Lower Division Clerk (LDC); Shift 2: Steno Grade-II.
Day 5 – Shift 1: Multi Tasking Staff (MTS).

FRI Group C Exam Pattern and Selection Process

The recruitment process for selection to Technical and Non-Technical Group C posts includes Stage-I (Computer Based Test or CBT), Stage-II (Descriptive Test) and Stage-III (Trade Test/ Typing Test/ Physical Test), details of which are as follows:

Stage I (Computer Based Test or CBT)

Group C Technical Posts Exam:

The CBT for each technical post will consist of 100 Objective type questions of maximum 100 Marks (01 Mark each). The question paper will be of total 03 Hours duration. There will be Negative marking of ⅓ Marks for each wrong answer. Minimum qualifying marks for UR/EWS will be 50 Marks, 40 Marks for SC/ ST/ OBC, 45 Marks for PH (UR/EWS) and 40 Marks for PH (SC/ST/OBC) Candidates.

The exam pattern of each technical post is as follows:

Technician (Field/ Lab Research) – The CBT Exam for Technician (Field/Lab Research) will be of 12th level consisting 05 sections as: Basic Science- 20 Questions, Arithmetic- 20 Questions, Mental Ability & Reasoning- 20 Questions, General Awareness- 20 Questions and General English- 20 Questions.

Technician Maintenance (Information Technology, Carpenter, Pump Operator Cum Mechanic, Plumber and Electrician) – The CBT Exam for Technician (Maintenance) will be of 10th level consisting 05 sections as: Relevant field (Trade)- 20 Questions, Arithmetic- 20 Questions, Mental Ability & Reasoning- 20 Questions, General Awareness- 20 Questions and General English- 20 Questions.

Technical Assistant (Field/ Lab Research) – CBT Exam for Technical Assistant post will be of 12th/ Graduate level consisting 04 sections as: Relevant field (subject)- 40 Questions (Graduate level), Arithmetic- 20 Questions, General Awareness & Reasoning- 20 Questions and English & General Science- 20 Questions.

Group C Non-Technical Posts Exam:

The CBT for each non-technical post will consist of 100 Objective type questions of maximum 100 Marks (01 mark each). The question paper will be of total 02 Hours duration. There will be Negative marking of ¼ Marks for each wrong answer. Minimum qualifying marks for UR/EWS/OBC candidates will be 40 Marks and 33 Marks for SC/ST/PH candidates.

The exam pattern of each non-technical post is as follows:

Lower Division Clerk (LDC) – The CBT exam for LDC post will be of 12th level consisting 04 sections as: Quantitative Aptitude- 25 Questions, English Language- 25 Questions, General Awareness- 25 Questions and General Intelligence- 25 Questions.

Forest Guard – The CBT exam for Forest Guard post will be of 10th level consisting 04 sections as: Basic Science related to Forestry- 40 Questions, Arithmetic & Reasoning- 25 Questions, General Awareness- 25 Questions and English- 10 Questions.

Stenographer Grade II – The CBT exam for Steno Grade II post will be of 12th level consisting 03 sections as: English Language Comprehension- 50 Questions, General Intelligence & Reasoning- 25 Questions and General Awareness- 25 Questions.

Store Keeper – The CBT exam for Store Keeper post will be of 12th level and will be divided in 04 sections as: Quantitative Aptitude- 25 Questions, General Awareness- 25 Questions, General Intelligence- 25 Questions and English Language- 25 Questions.

Library Information Assistant – The CBT exam for Library Information Assistant post will be of 12th/ Graduate level consisting 04 sections as: Relevant field- 40 Questions, General Awareness & Intelligence- 20 Questions, Basic Arithmetic Skill- 20 Questions and English Language- 20 Questions.

Multi Tasking Staff (MTS) – The CBT exam for MTS post will be of 10th level consisting 04 sections as: Numerical Aptitude- 25 Questions, General Awareness- 25 Questions, General Intelligence & Reasoning- 25 Questions and General English – 25 Questions.

Stage II (Descriptive Test)

Candidates 05 times the number of vacancies for each post shortlisted on the basis of their score in the CBT will be called for Descriptive Test as follows:

Short Essay (about 300 words) and a Letter/Application (Any one of these must be in Hindi and the other one will be in English) – Maximum Marks: 50 (25+25); Time Duration: 45 Minutes; Minimum Qualifying Marks: 50% of Maximum marks.

The Descriptive Test will be held for all the posts in Dehradun only and will be ‘Pen and Paper’ Mode in which candidates will be required to write a Short Essay and a Letter/Application.

The Descriptive Test will be qualifying in nature and is intended to test the basic language skills required for Group C posts. To be considered for final selection/ merit, candidates must obtain minimum qualifying marks (50% of maximum marks).

Stage III (Skill Test/ Trade Test)

This test will be conducted only for the posts of Technician (Maintenance), Lower Division Clerk, Forest Guard and Stenographer Grade II, details of which are as follows:

Technician (Maintenance) – Skill/Trade Test.
Lower Division Clerk – Typing Test.
Forest Guard – Physical standards verification followed by 25 km walk for Men and 14 km walk for Women in 04 hours.
Steno Grade II – Stenography Test.

The Skill/Trade Test will be of qualifying nature only and will be conducted only for those candidates who successfully pass the Descriptive Test. Thereafter candidates declared qualified in Stage II & III will be called for document verification.

The final merit list (result) of shortlisted candidates will be prepared on the basis of merit in the Computer Based Test (CBT) of the candidates who qualify in Descriptive and Skill/ Trade Test (as applicable). The appointment of the selected candidates will be subject to their being found medically fit as per the requirements of the Institute.

FRI Dehradun Admit Card 2026 for the Group C Exam of Technician, Technical Assistant, Lower Division Clerk, Forest Guard, Steno Grade II, Store Keeper, Library Information Assistant and Multi Tasking Staff will be available to download online 1-2 weeks before the exam date. The Admit Cards can be downloaded from the official website recruitment.fri.res.in (will not be sent by Post).
