BSF Technical Selection Process, Physical and Exam Pattern

Border Security Force (BSF) has initiated the recruitment process for the selection of Constable Technical (CT Tech) and Sub Inspector (SI Tech) posts under SMT Workshop Cadre. The selection process will be completed in two phases as Phase 1 (Written exam) and Phase 2 (Physical Measurement, Physical Efficiency Test, Documentation, Trade Test and Medical Examination). BSF Technical SMT Workshop Selection Procedure

BSF Technical selection tests will be conducted at respective recruitment centers (Jammu, Jalandhar, Jodhpur, Gandhinagar, Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Bengaluru, Hazaribagh, Agartala and Indore). Under the Motor Transport SMT Workshop SI Constable Recruitment, candidates will have to undergo two stages of recruitment process as follows:

  • Phase 1: Written Examination.
  • Phase 2: PST/ PET, Documentation, Practical/ Trade Test and Medical Examination.

BSF Constable SI Technical Selection Process

Candidates whose application forms are found to be in order will be issued admit card (call letter) though official website rectt.bsf.gov.in. After verification of identity, candidates will have to undergo different stages of recruitment process in the order of tests as follows:

First Phase of Selection Process:

Written Examination

Firstly, candidates will have to appear in the Written Test on OMR based answer sheets. The written exam for the post of Constable and SI will be conducted on due date at the Centre which will be communicated by Email/SMS for Admit Card. The Exam Syllabus/ Pattern for the posts of Constable (Technical) and Sub Inspector (Technical) is as follows:

Constable (Technical) – BSF CT Technical written exam will be of 02 Hours duration and will consist of total 100 objective type questions (01 mark each). The question paper will be of 10th/ ITI Standard and will comprise of questions based on Numerical Ability, Reasoning, General Awareness and General Science.

  • Numerical Ability: 25 Questions (25 Marks)
  • Reasoning: 25 Questions (25 Marks)
  • General Awareness: 25 Questions (25 Marks)
  • General Science: 25 Questions (25 Marks)

Sub Inspector (Technical) – BSF SI Technical written exam will be of 02 Hours duration and will consist of total 100 objective type questions (01 mark each). The question paper will be of Diploma level and will comprise of questions based on General English, General Awareness and Technical Subjects.

  • General English: 20 Questions (20 Marks)
  • General Awareness: 20 Questions (20 Marks)
  • Technical Subjects: 60 Questions (60 Marks)

Cut off marks for qualifying in Constable SI written exam:
Gen/ EWS/ OBC Category – 35% Marks
SC/ ST Category – 33% Marks

Second Phase of Selection Process:
Candidates qualified in Written Exam will have to appear for second phase tests on due dates which will be intimated by Email/ SMS for Admit Card through official website. Candidates will have to qualify all the tests (PST/ PET, Documentation, Practical/ Trade Test and Medical Examination) under second phase.

Physical Standard Test (PST)

Under second phase, firstly Physical Measurement or PST will be carried out. Physical Standards (Height, Chest & Weight) for Constable Technical (OTRP, SKT, Vehicle Mechanic, Auto Electrician, Upholster, Carpenter, Fitter and BSTS trades) and SI Technical (Vehicle Mechanic) will be measured as follows:

Height:
Gen/ SC/ OBC Category – Male: 165 Cms and Female: 157 Cms.
Garhwali, Kumaoni, Gorkha, Dogra, Maratha and candidates from Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir – Male: 160 Cms and Female: 155 Cms.
ST Category – Male: 162.5 Cms and Female: 150 Cms.

Chest (only for male candidates):
Gen/ SC/ OBC Category – 75-80 Cms.
Garhwali, Kumaoni, Gorkha, Dogra, Maratha and candidates from Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir – 73-78 Cms.
ST Category – 71-76 Cms.

Weight (for male and female candidates) – Proportionate to height and age as per Medical Standards.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Candidates qualified in Physical Measurement or PST will be allowed to appear for Physical Efficiency Test (PET) which will consist of the following event:
Run – Male: 3.2 Kms Race in 17 Minutes and Female: 1.6 Kms Race in 09 Minutes.

Documentation

After the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), qualified candidates will have to go through documentation (checking of documents). In this stage candidates will have to produce all original documents/ certificates in proof of details as given in the application form. The DV will be conducted the Centre on the date and time fixed by the department which will be communicated to the candidates through Email/ SMS for Call letter (Admit Card).

Educational certificates, Date of birth certificate, Experience certificate (if any), SC/ST/OBC certificate, Domicile certificate, Discharge certificate (for Ex-Serviceman), Relaxation certificate, Photograph etc original documents will be required for verification.

Practical/ Trade Test

Candidates qualified in PST, PET, Documentation will have to go through the respective Professional Knowledge/ Practical/ Trade Test based on ITI or experience in respective trade. The qualifying marks in the Professional knowledge/ Trade test for UR/ OBC/ EWS category candidates will be 35% and for SC/ST, it will be 33%.

Professional knowledge/ Trade Test is only qualifying in nature and will not carry any marks for preparation of final merit list.

Medical Examination

Candidates qualified in all the above stages of examination i.e. Written Exam, PST, PET, Documentation and Practical/ Trade test will be put through Detailed Medical Examination at the respective centres. The candidates will be medically examined to assess their physical & medical fitness for appointment as per Medical Standards.

In case a candidate is declared Medically Unfit during initial medical examination, he/she will be allowed to undergo Review Medical Examination (RME).

Final Selection – For final selection, Post, Trade and category wise final merit lists will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the Written Examination.
