Railway Technician Recruitment & Exam Syllabus (6238 Posts)

Indian Railway Recruitment Board has invited applications for the following 6238 Vacancies of Technician Grade-I Signal and Technician Grade-III posts in all RRBs against CEN 02/2025. All eligible candidates can apply online for the Railway Technician Bharti Vacancies through rrbapply.gov.in till 07th Aug 2025 (extended). RRB Technician Grade I and III Recruitment 2025-26

Pay Scale:

Technician Grade I Signal – Rs 29200-92300 (7th CPC Pay Matrix level-5) plus other allowances.
Technician Grade III – Rs 19900-63200 (7th CPC Pay Matrix level-2) plus other allowances.

Total Number of Vacancies – 6238 Posts (Grade I- 183 and Grade III- 6055).

Age Limit (As on 01.07.2025):

Technician Grade I Signal – 18 to 33 years i.e. a candidate must be born between 02.07.1992 and 01.07.2007 (both dates inclusive).


Technician Grade III – 18 to 30 years i.e. a candidate must be born between 02.07.1995 and 01.07.2007 (both dates inclusive).
Relaxation in upper age limit for SC, ST, OBC, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD and other categories will be applicable as per Govt rules.

Educational Qualification:

Technician Grade I Signal – Bachelor of Science in Physics/ Electronics/ Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Instrumentation from a recognized University/ Institute OR B.Sc in a combination of any sub-stream of basic streams of Physics/ Electronics/ Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Instrumentation from a recognized University/ Institute. OR

03 years Diploma in Engineering in the above basic streams or in combination of any of above basic streams OR Degree in Engineering in the above basic streams or in combination of any of above basic streams.

Technician Grade III – 10th Pass (Matriculation) with ITI in relevant trade from a recognised institute approved by NCVT/ SCVT.

Railway Technician Selection Process and CBT Syllabus

The recruitment process for selection to Technician Grade I and Grade III posts consists of Computer Based Test (CBT), Document Verification (DV) and Medical Examination (ME), as detailed below:

Computer Based Test (CBT)

Firstly, all eligible candidates will have to undergo Computer Based Test (CBT) to be held as per the date, time and venue fixed by Indian Railway. The CBT will be of 90 Minutes duration and will consist of an objective type paper of 100 questions (1 mark each). Separate CBT will be conducted for each Pay Level i.e. Technician Grade I Signal and Technician Grade III as per the exam pattern and syllabus below.

Technician Grade I Signal Exam Pattern:

Subject-wise break-up of questions and marks for CBT of Technician Gr I Signal are as follows:

  • General Awareness: 10 Questions (10 Marks)
  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 15 Questions (15 Marks)
  • Basics of Computers and Applications: 20 Questions (20 Marks)
  • Mathematics: 20 Questions (20 Marks)
  • Basic Science and Engineering: 35 Questions (35 Marks)

Technician Grade I Signal Syllabus:

The latest and detailed syllabus for RRB Technician Gr I Signal CBT Exam as provided by Indian Railway in CEN 02/2025 is as follows:

General Awareness – Knowledge of Current affairs, Indian geography, culture and history of India including freedom struggle, Indian Polity and constitution, Indian Economy, Environmental issues concerning India and the World, Sports, General scientific and technological developments, etc.

General Intelligence and Reasoning – Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and decision making, Similarities and differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions, etc.

Basics of Computers and Applications – Architecture of Computers; input and Output devices; Storage devices, Networking, Operating System like Windows, Unix, Linux; MS Office; Various data representation; Internet and Email; Websites & Web Browsers; Computer Virus.

Mathematics – Number system, Rational and irrational numbers, BODMAS rule, Quadratic Equations, Arithmetic Progression, Similar Triangles, Pythagoras Theorem, Co-ordinate Geometry, Trigonometrical Ratios, Heights and distances, Surface area and Volume.

Basic Science and Engineering – Physics fundamentals- Units, Measurements, Mass, Weight, Density, Work, Power, and Energy, Speed and Velocity, Heat and Temperature.

Electricity and Magnetism- Electric Charge, Field, and Intensity, Electric Potential and Potential Difference, Simple Electric Circuits, Conductors, Non-conductors/ Insulators, Ohm’s Law and its Limitations, Resistances in Series and Parallel of a Circuit and Specific Resistance, Relation between Electric Potential, Energy, and Power (Wattage), Ampere’s Law, Magnetic Force on Moving Charged Particle and Long Straight Conductors, Electromagnetic Induction, Faraday’s Law, and Electromagnetic Flux, Magnetic Field, Magnetic Induction.

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 25 Questions (25 Marks)
  • General Science: 40 Questions (40 Marks)
  • General Awareness: 10 Questions (10 Marks)

Technician Grade III Syllabus:

The latest and detailed syllabus for RRB Technician Gr III CBT as provided by Indian Railway in CEN 02/2025 is as follows:

Mathematics – Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work; Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.

General Intelligence and Reasoning – Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and decision making, Similarities and differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement- Arguments and Assumptions etc.

General Science – The syllabus under this shall cover Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10th standard level.

General Awareness – on current affairs in science & technology, sports, culture, personalities, economics, politics and any other subject of importance.

The CBT questions will be available in English, Hindi and 13 regional Indian languages (i.e. Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu). The CBT questions will be displayed in the chosen language and in English.

There will be negative marking of 1/3 mark for every wrong answer in CBT. Minimum 40% marks for UR/ EWS, 30% for OBC/ SC and minimum 25% marks for ST candidates will be mandatory to qualify the CBT Exam.

Document Verification (DV)

Based on the marks and merit of the candidates in the CBT, candidates equal to the number of vacancies will be selected for Document Verification. Shortlisted candidates will be informed to download their E-call letter for DV through the official RRB websites as well as through SMS and email (on their registered mobile number and email ID). The following documents in original as well as two sets of self-attested photocopies will be required for verification.

Documents Required for Verification:

1. Matriculation/ High School Certificate or Equivalent certificate as Proof for Date of Birth.
2. 10+2/ Inter/ Higher Secondary/ PUC (as applicable).
3. NCVT/ SCVT/ Degree/ Diploma Certificate with Semester wise Mark Sheets (as applicable).
4. SC/ ST/ EWS Certificate in the prescribed format.
5. OBC-NCL certificate in the prescribed format.
6. Non creamy layer declaration by OBC candidates in the prescribed format.
7. Income Certificate for Waiving Exam Fee for Economically Backward Classes in the prescribed format.
8. Original discharge certificate for Ex-serviceman.
9. Photo Copy of both sides of Aadhar Card.
10. Medical Certificate for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in the prescribed format.
11. NOC from serving employees with date of appointment.
12. NOC from Serving Defence Personnel with probable date of discharge.
13. Minority Community declaration on Non-judicial Stamp Paper in the prescribed format.
14. Gazette notification and/or any Legal document in case of formal change of name.
15. Decree of divorce/judicial separation from the competent Court of Law as applicable and Affidavit stating that the candidate has not remarried.
16. Death Certificate of spouse in case of widow candidate and Affidavit stating that the candidate has not remarried.
17. Self declaration by Ex-Servicemen candidates who secure civil employment.

Medical Examination (ME)

Candidates called for DV will have to pass requisite medical fitness test(s) conducted by the Railway Administration to ensure that they are physically fit to carry out the duties connected with the post. Visual Acuity Standard is an important medical fitness for railway service. Candidates must be physically fit in all respects.

Candidates must ensure that they are medically fit and eligible as per prescribed medical standards for the post. Candidates who have undergone Lasik surgery or any other surgical procedure to correct refractive error, are not eligible for the post of Technician Grade III Track Machine. Candidates have to submit declaration during DV.

Application form, Important Dates and Notification

Eligible and interested candidates will have to submit online application form for the RRB Railway Technician Recruitment Grade I and III Posts through the website rrbapply.gov.in up to 07th Aug 2025 (extended). Candidates can apply to only one RRB and only one application will be accepted for each pay level. Applicants who submit more than one application for same pay level will be disqualified and debarred.

Before applying online, keep ready your valid Email ID, Mobile number, Educational qualification details and Scanned copies of signature (30 to 49 Kb) in jpeg format and SC/ST Certificate (upto 400Kb) in pdf format.

Firstly, you will have to Create an Account on the RRB portal (if not already created). Submit the registration form with the required details (Name, Date of Birth, Father’s name, Mother’s Name, Aadhar number, mobile number, email-id etc). After the registration, note down and preserve the registration id and password for further requirements.

Thereafter submit personal details, educational qualification, choice of exam language, bank account for refund of exam fee, preferences etc, and then upload your live photograph, signature and caste certificate (SC/ST). On submitting application details you will be directed to the payment page and then complete the fee payment process using Debit Card/ Credit Card/ Net Banking/ UPI.

After successful submission of online application, take printout of the online application form for reference/ record.

Examination fee:
General/ OBC Category – Rs 500/- (Rs 400 will be refunded on appearing in CBT).
SC/ ST/ Ex-Serviceman/ PwBD/ Female/ Transgender/ Minorities/ Economically backward class – Rs 250/- (will be refunded on appearing in CBT).
The exam fee can be paid online by using Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking or UPI.

Important Dates (Revised):
Commencement of registration of online form – 28th Jun 2025 (00.01 AM)
Last date for registration of online form – 07th Aug 2025 (11.59 PM)
Last date for fee payment after closing date – 09th Aug 2025 (11.59 PM)
