All Agniveers from the Navy will get permanent jobs in the Coast Guard. The process of retirement of 75 percent of Agniveers from the three armed forces, Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force is going to start next year. Meanwhile, according to reports, the Indian Coast Guard has made preparations to give permanent jobs to Agniveers retiring from the Indian Navy.
The Indian Coast Guard is a paramilitary force under the Ministry of Defense. According to sources, all the Agniveers who are relieved from the Navy will be given permanent jobs in the Coast Guard and the Agniveers trained by the Navy will prove to be very useful for the Coast Guard.
The Navy and the Coast Guard do almost similar work but their areas of work in the sea are different. The Coast Guard is responsible for securing the maritime borders, while the Navy conducts operations in distant seas.
About 2600 Agniveers were appointed in the first batch in the Indian Navy. The first batch is due to be relieved in March 2026. Out of this, 650 Navy Agniveer (25%) will be permanently enrolled as Sailors (Regular Cadre). Whereas 1950 Agniveers will be appointed by the Coast Guard.
Agniveers of Indian Army are likely to be in highest demand in private security agencies. However, many will join the paramilitary and police forces. Similarly, there is demand for Agniveers of the Indian Air Force in private aviation companies. Agniveers perform technical jobs in the Air Force and also perform technical jobs in the Navy.
The Agnipath Scheme was started in 2022 to recruit Agniveers for four years. Around 1.5 lakh Agniveers are expected to be deployed in the Indian Army and 10,000 Agniveers each in the Indian Air Force and Navy.
Seats have been reserved for Agniveer in paramilitary forces, police, public sector undertakings and government jobs in some states.
