BSF Constable Tradesman Recruitment Process 2025-2026

The selection process for Constable (Tradesman) 2025-2026 consists of Phase I (Physical Standard Test and Physical Efficiency Test), Phase II (Written Exam) and Phase III (Documentation, Trade Test and Detailed Medical Examination), as follows:

1st Phase: Physical Standard Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET).
2nd Phase: Written Examination (OMR or Computer Based).
3rd Phase: Documentation, Trade Test and Detailed Medical Examination (DME).

BSF Constable (Tradesmen) Admit Card – The 1st phase exam i.e. PST and PET will be conducted at selected recruitment centres (date to be updated). Admit cards of all eligible candidates will be uploaded on the official website (rectt.bsf.gov.in) and information for downloading will be given through registered email Id/ mobile number. You can Download Admit Card through the link below using your Email Id and Password to appear in the 1st phase exam.

BSF Constable Tradesman Selection Procedure

You will be allowed entry into the Recruitment Centre only on production of Call Letter/ Admit Card or a copy of the list of eligible candidates downloaded from the BSF website containing your name.

You will have to carry at least one Photo Identity Proof in original, such as Aadhaar Card, Voter ID Card, Driving License, Identity Card issued by University/ College etc to produce before the Selection Board to verify your identity.

After verification you will have to undergo various selection tests in the following order:

Physical Test (PST and PET)

Candidates whose application forms are found to be in order will be called for PST and PET. The PST/ PET will consist of Height Test, PET (05 Kms race in 24 minutes for Male and 1.6 Kms race in 8.30 minutes for Female), Biometric identification & screening of testimonials/ documents and chest & weight measurement.

PET will be only qualifying in nature and it will not carry any marks. PET will not be held for Ex-servicemen. The PST/PET will be conducted through Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) technology and Digital Machine based PST. The entire process of PST/PET will be video recorded through CCTV.

Physical Standards (Height, Chest & Weight) for male and female candidates will be measured as follows:

Physical Standards (Male):

GEN/ OBC/ SC – Height: 165 Cms and Chest: 75-80 Cms
Candidates belonging to Garhwali, Kumaoni, Gorkha, Dogra & Maratha and candidates from Assam, Himachal Pradesh and UTs of Jammu Kashmir & Ladakh  – Height: 162.5 Cms and Chest: 75-80 Cms
Candidates from Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya – Height: 160 Cms and Chest: 75-80 Cms
ST candidates – Height: 160 Cms, Chest: 75-80 Cms
ST candidates hailing from North Eastern states – Height: 155 Cms, Chest: 75-80 Cms

Physical Standards (Female):

GEN/ OBC/ SC – Height: 155 Cms
Candidates belonging to Garhwali, Kumaoni, Gorkha, Dogra & Maratha and candidates from Assam, Himachal Pradesh and UTs of Jammu Kashmir & Ladakh  – Height: 152 Cms
Candidates from Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya – Height: 150 Cms
ST candidates – Height: 148 Cms
ST candidates hailing from North Eastern states – Height: 147 Cms

Weight – Proportionate to height and age as per medical standards.

Written Examination

Candidates declared qualified in 1st Phase (PST/ PET) will be called to appear for the OMR/ Computer based Written Exam. Admit Card for the 2nd Phase (Written Exam) will be uploaded on the official website and the same will be informed through registered email Id/ mobile number.

Exam Syllabus/ Pattern – BSF Constable Tradesmen question paper will be of 02 Hours (120 Minutes) duration and will consist of total 100 objective type questions (01 mark each). The question paper will be set both in Hindi and English.

The CT TM Question Paper will be of 10th standard and will comprise of questions on General Awareness/ General Knowledge, Knowledge of Elementary Mathematics, Analytical aptitude, Ability to observe & distinguish Patterns and Basic knowledge of English/Hindi, as follows:

  • General Awareness/ General Knowledge: 25 Questions (25 Marks)
  • Knowledge of Elementary Mathematics: 25 Questions (25 Marks)
  • Analytical Aptitude and Ability to observe distinguished Patterns: 25 Questions (25 Marks)
  • Basic Knowledge of English/Hindi: 25 Questions (25 Marks)

Cut off marks for qualifying in written exam:
UR/ EWS/ Ex-Servicemen – 35% Marks
SC/ ST/ OBC – 33% Marks

Documentation

Candidates declared qualified in 2nd Phase (Written exam) will be called for Documentation (checking of original documents). In this phase candidates will have to produce all original documents/ certificates in proof of details as given in the application form.

Educational certificates, Date of birth certificate, Domicile, Experience certificate (if any), SC/ST/OBC certificate, Discharge certificate (for Ex-Serviceman), Relaxation certificate, Photographs, ID proof etc will be verified by the Board of Officers.

Trade Test

Candidates qualified in Documentation will have to undergo the respective Trade Test. Candidates will have to appear for one trade test only as filled in the application form. Trade test will be qualifying in nature and it will not carry any marks. Trade-wise skill/ qualification for BSF Constable (Tradesman) are given below:

Cobbler: Polishing of shoes, handling tools, cutting of leather, repair & stitching of shoes.

Tailor: Taking measurement of persons, cutting of cloth and Stitching of uniform.

Cook Cooking of Chappatti & Rice, Cooking of Vegetable/ Dal/ Sambhar/ Idli etc for 100 men, cooking of meat/ fish/ egg/ kheer.

Water Carrier: Washing of utensils, kneading of Atta for making chappattis for about 100 men and cutting of vegetable etc.

Washer Man: Washing of clothes, Ironing of Khaki, Cotton uniform, woolen and TC uniform.

Barber: Handling of tools, haircutting and shaving.

Sweeper: Sweeping, cleaning of toilets and bathroom etc.

Carpenter: Handling tools, cutting of wood, fitting, polishing and Finishing of materials.

Painter: Knowledge of colours, paints, shades, painting of sign Boards, painting and drawing/ knowledge of spray Painting for motor vehicles.

Electrician: Knowledge of AC & DC current, new electric fitting, Rectification of faults.

Draftsman: Knowledge of drawing materials, papers enlargement, sketching and plan drawing etc.

Waiter: Hygiene/ sanitation, servicing of foods and allied matters.

Mali: Plantations, maintenance of plants, knowledge of Seeds and their sewing seasons, fertilizer and manures etc.

Khoji/ Syce: Foot prints tracker.

No trade test is required for Carpenter, Plumber, Painter, Electrician, Pump Operator, Upholster, Cook, Water Carrier and Waiter trades.

Medical Examination

Candidates qualified in trade test will be called for Detailed Medical Examination (DME) which will be carried out by Medical Board of Officers to assess their physical & medical fitness. The candidates will be medically examined to assess their physical & medical fitness as prescribed in the eligibility conditions.

The visual standard will be examined as per revised uniform medical guidelines issued by MHA. Minimum vision should be 6/6 and 6/9 in other eye without correction i.e. without wearing glasses/ lenses. Candidates declared Unfit in DME and not satisfied with the findings of the Initial Medical Examination, can submit their appeal for Review Medical Examination (RME).

The candidates must not have knock knees, flat foot, varicose vein or squint in eyes. They must be in good mental and physical health for duties in all places including in high altitude and fit to serve border areas with extreme climatic conditions and must be free from any defect likely to interfere with efficient performance of the duties.

Final Selection – State, Trade and category wise final merit lists (result) will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in Written Examination. The list of finally selected candidates will be published on the official website rectt.bsf.gov.in. There will be no waiting list.
