1790 Nursing Seats will Increase in Colleges of Uttarakhand

There is good news for the students preparing to make a career in the nursing field, as 1790 nursing seats are going to increase in 39 colleges of Uttarakhand. After formal approval from the Health Minister, formal permission will be issued to the colleges.

Nursing Seats in Govt and Private Colleges

The total number of nurses registered with the State Nursing Council by 2024 is approximately 21500. Currently, training is being offered for approximately 9800 seats in government and private nursing colleges. The state’s hospital bed capacity is approximately 58000. Consequently, there is still significant potential for an increase in nursing staff in the state.

BSc Nursing and GNM courses are offered in 05 government medical colleges and 11 government nursing colleges, along with private paramedical colleges in the state.

A total of 9804 approved BSc Nursing and GNM seats are currently available. The department has submitted a proposal to the government to increase nursing course seats.

The Chief Secretary, after considering the college applications, approved the proposal to add 1790 new seats. He directed the establishment of a single-window system for the operation of nursing courses. It takes considerable time to process applications from various institutions across the state at the district, Director General, and government levels. A single-window system will simplify this process and expedite decision-making.

He urged that work in this direction begin immediately. A concrete and transparent SOP should be developed at the institution level for the various stages of starting new courses, from submitting applications for seat increases to their approval.
